I usually get quite nervous before races. I have been racing since i was 5 years old, but it doesnt seem to help 🙂 I still get nervous and tend to put some pressure on myself. My first race after the surgery was even worse….
The first race i did after the surgery was in Montemor-o-Velho, sprint distance (750m swim – 20km bike -5km run). I have raced here twice before, but in olympic distance. The swim is nice, some technical parts on the bike and a flat run course.
So, back to the day of the race. I was extremely nervous before this race, because i had no idea what kind of shape i would be in. I knew that the competition wasn’t that strong, so i started to set my objectives high, overall podium…
The swim went very well, left the water in 3rd or 4th place. Headed out on the bike course and after 2 laps i was leading the race. Could feel in my legs that my bike fitness wasnt the best, but with the help of some guys i managed to keep the lead into T2 (bike to run transition). I remember entering T2 with a huge smile 🙂 my first race after the surgery and i was leading the race… what a feeling! The run was tough, suffered quite a lot. Had only been running a few times before the race and i could clearly feel lack of training. Was passed by 2 girls on the run and i couldnt respond…I crossed the finish line in 3rd place and 2nd Senior… 🙂 mission completed! 🙂 🙂 🙂
This race will always be very special to me!
