The late race report…

Haven’t had the time to write about last weekend’s race yet, but here is the race report.

As you know this race was quite important for me as it was one of the races that served as the qualification for the European Cup.

The start list had never been so competitive. We were 45 girls and world class athletes like Melanie Santos (11th at the junior world champs), Pamela Oliveira, 13th in the world and Brazils junior national team was among us.

Out of the water…

The swim wasn’t that good. Took the wrong direction towards the first buoy and i lost quite some time. When i left the water i was about 40 seconds behind the 2nd pack. I did a good run to the transition park and was out on the bike. The first lap was about chasing the 2nd pack. I managed to catch them during the first lap. The remaining part of the bike was controlled.

On the bike

The run was quite good and i gained some positions. All my hard work is starting to pay off, finished 8th overall and 3rd Senior (3minutes behind the winner) It was an honour to share the podium with Pamela Oliveira who won my age group. Melanie Santos did a great race and won overall.

With the result from this race I’m still having my chances to go to the European Cup. I had 4 Portuguese women ahead of me. There are 6 slots for the female elite race in the European cup. I guess all will come down to the race on Sunday that will take place in Algarve. It’s the second and last qualification race. As always, I’ll go out there and give everything.

First Triathlon of the season around the corner

Just a week missing till my first Triathlon race of the season. The race will be over the sprint distance (750m swim + 20km bike +5km run). This season the triathlon races starts pretty early and my only fear is that the water will be cold. We did our first open water training session yesterday and the water was around 13 degrees. It was freezing…

Ice cold water…

The two first triathlon races are very important as they serve as qualification races for the European Cup. I would really like to get another chance to participate, however one needs to qualify. My swim is ok, it will always depend on my mental state of mind. I don’t think i have ever been so strong in my run. I have put in lots of kilometers on the run and its showing some results. Yesterday we ended a couple of hard weeks of training with a hard bike/run session. We did 2 x (1.2km flat out on the bike, followed by 2 x 1,2km run). I was able to push quite hard and keep a 3´32/km pace.

Hebalife – with some rebuild after a hard swim/bike session

I’m curious to see how ill perform on Saturday.

A few weeks ago i was contacted by Tripodden, a Swedish site that writes about Swedish Triathlon (results, interviews, etc). They will do an interview with me over Skype on Friday 🙂

Good Sensations

Today at my first race of the season. My legs were tired after some weeks of hard training, but even so i managed a 5th place overall, 3rd Portuguese and i won my age group. As it was the National Championship for Age-Groups, i was crowned National champion in the Age-group (30-34)

The podium

The race was won by Pamela Oliveira from Brazil.

The best part was that i managed to push during the run segments besides very heavy legs. I did both runs below 4min/km on a very windy and not that flat course. Was feeling very good during the bike. It had some technical parts that scared me a bit, i never seem to get over the fear since i crashed…

Now its time to prepare and leave to Sporting’s stadium for todays Derby! Sporting is playing Benfica at home and there will be 47 000 people in the stadium.

Been a while since i wrote last.

I hope you enjoyed the program that i did with Sporting TV – A Nossa Fé. If you didn’t have time to check it out yet, its on my site (www.katarinalarsson.com) under the tab videos. Im really happy with the result and i want to thank the great team from Sporting TV, A Nossa Fé for giving me this opportunity and a memory for life.

Tomorrow its time to kick-off the racing season 2015 with a duathlon race. The distance is sprint (5km run-20km bike-2,5km run). Duathlon races are not really my thing. Its much harder to race duathlon than triathlons. The race will serve as a workout to prepare the first triathlon that is around the corner.  We are in a middle of a hard block of training, so Im not expecting any good sensations. The start list will have some big names tomorrow. Pamela Oliveira from Brazil, Olympic athlete and currently ranked 13th in the world will participate. Its always nice when you get the opportunity to race world class athletes.

I have been training well, however work has not been easy and i have felt very tired lately. Im not with the same motivation to head out on my afternoon workouts.
