This week im doing a bit of what i call “preparation for vacation training” to start my complete rest as of Saturday. Its quite hard when you are used to train twice a day to just stop one day to the other. Despite being tired and needing to rest im so used to the training that i need to adapt myself to my resting period, adapt to break the daily routines.
I have always been a bit of a sucker for training registers and keeping a log of what i have done every day. Its very useful to keep track of “every day of the process”. I keep track of kilometers that i swim, bike and run, how i felt, time on series etc…Before i started to be coached by Andre i used notebooks, but Andre has created a very good register in excel for his athletes that is much easier to update and gives interesting statistics..
In the beginning of the season we are always asked to set the objectives for the coming season. Its good to look back on them now and realize that i met all of them, even exceeded in some…
Im really happy that i managed my main 2 objectives which were; medal at the Europeans (Won 2 GOLD medals) and a medal at the Nationals in time trial (Won the bronze). I did 7th at the Nationals on the road race. I did qualify for Quarteira and i have supported my team. I did win the international long distance race in Lisbon as well, but that was not a main objective. The objective for the 10km run below 40 min was completed during the Europeans when i ran the last 10km on the Olympic distance at 39´30″. So, to summarize, im very happy with the results that i have achieved.
2016 Season objectives
Ill pick up my training on the 15th of August and start to prepare my last two races of this season.
Below are the graphs of what i have been swimming, biking and running so far this season…as i mentioned, im a sucker for training registers 😉
Finished 3rd Senior and 6th Overall yesterday at the Nationals in Olympic Distance.
Congrats to team mates Liliana on renewing her title as National Champion and to Helena for your 2nd place…
I don´t know what i was expecting from the race, but im not quite satisfied with my performance.
The race started off bad with a swim where wet suit was not allowed. If the water temperature reaches certain temperature the the athletes are not allowed to ware the wet suit. Im not a good swimmer and removing the wet suit is just crap…
The swim was supposed to be 1500m, but it turned out to be 1900m, so i lost even more time than usual.
out of the water
I worked very well on the bike together with another girl and actually thought that we would minimize the gap. The output of our effort was minimal and we arrived to the run 2 min 30 sec behind.
The run was painful , running 10,5km in 38-39 degrees hurts!
I need to get some rest now.No training, no racing and just enjoy the summer for a while. Its been a quite busy year so far and i really need a break. If all goes as planned ill start to prepare last races of this season in the middle of august…
Running in the heat…
The future is bright, but different…
The last race is around the corner, National championship over the Olympic distance and then finally 2 weeks off. I need vacation!
After the Europeans i dropped the volume of swim and run to focus on the bike right after the Europeans with the aim to perform well during the Nationals in cycling.
Dropping the run was never really an issue as i recover it quite fast, however its really hard for me to recover on the swim. Im like dead last in all the exercises when training with the kids and i have to take many deep breathes not to give in. Its frustrating spending so many hours in the pool every year and not improving or recovering fast after a shorter break. But that´s life when you train with speedy youngsters and your own evolution curve has stagnated and you realize you aint getting any better, no drama…
Im heading to the Nationals with no objectives, hoping i wont be too far back after the swim. Ill try to push on the bike and run with whatever that is left in the legs..
The Nationals in time trial finished with a Bronze medal for me. A medal was the objective and i managed. I was 2 seconds from silver and about 1 minute and 50 seconds from the gold. The gold would have been impossible, but i could have reached a silver. Im very happy with my bronze medal. Sunday im racing the road race over 100km. No objectives for that race, just to finish and gain some more experience.
Out on the course
Besides my bronze medal i found out that i was awarded the female athlete of the year at the Sporting gala. A true honour to win this award from my Club, even more special as it was the Sporting members that voted. Thank you to all the people who voted for me, forever thankful.
