12 seconds…

Was the difference at the finish line. The difference that made us lose the gold and become Vice-National Champions, bloody 12 seconds…

Everything was going according to plans.

I was the weakest swimmer on the team and i went out hard from the beginning. Out on the bike the strategy was for me to push the 20km flat out, so i did. I dont know if i explained how the time trial works, but all elements has to swim, bike and run together. The other teams had around 6-7 elements, but we were only 4 from the beginning and Monica would drop of after the swim, so the three of us that were left had to finish…

My face shows how i felt…

I must admit that i felt the tiredness from the half Ironman last Sunday, but out on the bike we were gaining time on Rio Maior and Alhandra. I was afraid that i was going to pay the hard bike on the run… so i did!

Heading into the second transition everything was still going as planned. We were leading, Alhandra in second and Rio Maior in 3rd. We had to win, Alhandra had to be second and Rio Maior 3rd for us to win the overall title…seemed easy

Finishing the bike…

I was feeling crap as of the first step i took of that run. My legs were burning and i was so damn tired. With one lap to go on the run we were still in the lead, but we didn’t manage to keep up and we lost the gold by 12 seconds…12 seconds.

Heading out on a painful run…

The finish line…

Its frustrating, but i know i left everything i had out there…Nevertheless i also know that we didn’t lose the gold on Saturday, we should have secured it on some earlier stages this year. The National Championship is raced over 6 stages and all are equally important to secure a title…

Next year we will be back and we will get that title…
